Sony RDR-GXD500 review

The Sony RDR-GXD500 will write to all DVD recording formats and has composite S-Video, Scart, RF inputs and composite S-Video, RGB Scart, component, RF, digital optical and coaxial outputs

Millions of us like to play DVDs, and watch and record Freeview, so well done Sony for designing what would be obvious to a class of five year olds doing a project called ‘things daddy would like’ – a DVD recorder with built-in Freeview tuner.

The Sony RDR-GXD500 will write to all DVD recording formats, except RAM, and the quality of recordings is excellent. It has composite S-Video, Scart, RF inputs and composite S-Video, RGB Scart, component, RF, digital optical and coaxial outputs.

There are no progressive scan or digital video outputs but DVD replay still jiggles our pedalo. It’s simple, well executed and can only get top marks.
